Barrick promotes Kelvin Dushnisky to senior executive VP

Barrick Gold (TSX, NYSE:ABX) announced today that Kelvin Dushnisky has been promoted to the position of Senior Executive Vice President.

Dushnisky, who joined the company in 2002, retains global responsibility for Government Relations, Project Permitting and Approvals, Corporate Responsibility, Investor Relations and Communications.

He will also assume oversight responsibility for Barrick Energy, the company’s Alberta-based oil and gas business and an important component of Barrick’s cost management strategy.

“This appointment reflects the strategic and growing importance of Kelvin’s role in managing a diverse set of increasingly complex issues facing Barrick and the global mining industry,” said Jamie Sokalsky, President and Chief Executive Officer of Barrick in a statement.

“Kelvin has collaborated closely with me over the past decade as a key member of the company’s management team and has more than 25 years of experience in broad-ranging roles across the industry.”

Previous to this position, Dushnisky held various senior roles and became Executive Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs in June 2010.

Kelvin Dushnisky holds a B.Sc. (Hon.) degree from the University of Manitoba and M.Sc. and J.D. degrees from the University of British Columbia. Mr. Dushnisky is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Canadian Bar Association and represents Barrick, along with CEO Jamie Sokalsky, at the World Gold Council and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM).

He also serves on the boards of the Mining Association of Canada, the Institute of the Americas, the Canadian Council of the Americas and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
