Anti oil sands protest blocks Canada-EU Energy Summit in London

A group of activists performing what they called an “oil orgy” protest interrupted the Canada Europe Energy Summit, at Canada House, in London Tuesday morning.

According to the main organizer, the UK-based Tar Sands Network dozen of demonstrators showed up at the Canada House in London to prevent oil giants such as Shell, Total and Enbridge from meeting with Canadian officials.

The non-violent activists held speech bubbles with ironic pro-oil statements such as “Destroy the Fuel Quality Directive,” “Canada: emerging energy supervillain,” and “Gag climate scientists.”

Other than delaying the meeting and forcing delegates to be diverted around the protest through a back door, the protest did not cause any major commotion.
