Agnico Eagle (NYSE: AEM, TSX: AEM) announced Thursday it will send home its Nunavut-based workforce from the Meliadine and Meadowbank operations as well as the exploration projects for a period of four weeks to prevent Covid-19 spread.
At the present there are no confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Nunavut or at any of its global operations, Agnico said.
Senior management from Agnico are meeting with representatives from Rankin Inlet, Baker Lake, the Kivalliq Inuit Association, the Government of Nunavut and others to review the Company’s Pandemic Plan.
“We value our relationship with the people of Nunavut and are committed to do what is best for the health, safety and well-being of all our employees and the communities,” said Sean Boyd, Agnico Eagle’s chief executive officer.
Agnico Eagle plans to continue operations at both Meliadine and Meadowbank with the remaining workforce, it said.
