Iamgold Corp. of Toronto has won the award for Discovery of the Year by the Association de l’Exploration Miniere du Quebec for its Nelligan gold project. The presentation was made at AMEC’s 2919 meeting on Oct. 23, 2020, in Quebec City.

The Developer of the Year award highlights the importance of a recent mineral discovery that has had a ripple effect on it or other exploration activities.

“The Iamgold team worked very hard to achieve this major result, and to advance Nelligan to the completion of a first 43-101 compliant resource, announced earlier this week, said senior VP exploration Craig MacDougall. He thanked his team, various collaborators, and Vanstar for giving his company the opportunity to become its partner at Nelligan.

The Nelligan gold project is a joint venture of Iamgold (51%) and Vanstar Mining Resources (49%). Iamgold may eventually earn a 75% interest in the property.

The project is located 60 km southwest of Chibougamau. As of October 2019, the inferred resources (on a 100% basis) were 97.0 million tonnes grading 1.02 g/t gold for 3.2 million oz. of contained gold.
