A clash over mining and water

Nigeria has lifted a ban on mining exploration in the northwestern state after a five-year suspension.

The project is 6 miles from Africa’s largest copper mining complex, the Kansanshi mine held by First Quantum Minerals.

Environmental permit application includes ending the use of domestic land-based water at the mine in 2035.

The group said it will consider the base metals business demerger at a later stage.
