Winners in annual METS Ignited Collaboration Award announced

The Australian Industry Growth Centre for the mining equipment, technology and services (METS) sector has announced the winners of its 2018 collaboration award. Announced at a Gala Dinner at the leading annual trade conference for the industry, IMARC, held in Melbourne on Wednesday, 31 October, judges representing METS Ignited were so impressed with the calibre of entries, they selected two winners.

The collaboration between Unearthed and Newcrest Mining was chosen as a worthy winner for the launch of an automated online platform, The Newcrest Crowd. Joint winners were partners, Core Resources and Mineral Technologies, which co-developed The Toowong Process, a method of processing arsenic in order to clean feedstock in an environmentally safe and stable way.

METS Ignited is an industry-led, government-funded Growth Centre for the METS sector that works with METS companies, miners, and research organisations to improve the competitiveness and productivity of the Australian METS sector.

CEO Ric Gros comments on the awards: “In order to remain successful and competitive on a global scale, collaboration is vital amongst Australian organisations operating within the diverse and fast-moving mining sector. We had a really impressive field of entries this year, but these two partnerships stood out as examples of the power of world-class collaboration. Congratulations to both the winners, we hope this recognition will propel them forwards to achieve further success within the flourishing mining innovation ecosystem in Australia.”

The METS Ignited Collaboration Award is now in its third year. It acknowledges and recognises successful outcomes that have occurred from METS companies, miners and researchers working together on products and solutions. Submissions are received by a team of independent judges, all leaders in the sector. 2018 is the first year where the quality of the applications was deemed so high, that two winners were chosen.
