Usability the Key Focus for Micromine 2018 Latest Release

MICROMINE released the latest version of its leading exploration and 3D mine design solution, Micromine 2018 Service Pack 2 to clients and is available to download now.

Micromine 2018.2 is a minor update to the Micromine family, with enhanced flexibility and functionality designed to improve the overall user experience.

Micromine provides explorers with an in-depth understanding of their project so prospective regions can be targeted more effectively, increasing the chance of a project’s success. Miners are provided with easy-to-use modelling, estimation and design tools to simplify day-to-day production tasks.

An exciting advancement for Micromine 2018 is the inclusion of a new licensing system, which works with or without a dongle and includes the ability to temporarily borrow a network license without the need for a dongle or persistent network connection. This will mean more flexibility for Micromine users. In addition to these features, SP2 now enables node-locked licences to be run on a Virtual Machine.

MICROMINE Product Strategy Manager Mark Gabbitus commented on the new functionality “this is an exciting new commercial offering for the Micromine solution and one that will increase utilisation and allow quick and easy access to the software.”

Other new and enhanced features for SP2 include but are not limited to;

  • The conversion between FLOAT and REAL (double precision) fields has been improved to avoid numerical inconsistencies in downstream operations. FLOAT (single-precision) fields are now deprecated in File Create/Modify and are no longer recommended.
  • If a user-defined orientation was previously set in the form, the default orientation mode when subsequently opening the form will be User-defined. If there is no user-defined orientation and the profile was placed on a string, the orientation mode will be Perpendicular to selection.
  • Users can now snap to a point on the drive string when you create a new ring. A message on the status bar, and above the ring display, will prompt the user to select the location of the new ring. The coordinates of the point position are also shown on the status bar. The angle of the inclination of the ring plane (the Dump Angle) is now limited to a maximum/minimum angle of +/- 80 degrees°.
  • Improved interactive Block Model Extents workflow, which now locks the extents to a template block model if present.
  • Pit Optimiser; Analyse – the option to specify the Starting Period for the optimisation has been removed. The beginning of Period 1 is now always considered to be the starting time for the optimisation. For the purposes of calculating the Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR), initial capital costs are assumed to be incurred in Period 0. Cash flows derived from mining activities accrue, and costs are incurred, at the end of each period of the analysis, with the first occurring at the end of Period 1. Capital expenses incurred during periods of the analysis are included as required, regard-less of whether any pit development occurs within a period.
  • Pit Optimiser; input parameters exported for optimisation runs in which DTMs are applied to Ore body models can now be viewed in Microsoft Excel.
  • Enhanced interactive Search Ellipsoid by adding measurement feedback, which is now provided on the status bar and can be used to determine whether the direction and the radii of the ellipse are acceptable.
  • Better guidance is now provided to users when the Micromine offline help files fail to launch. These files can be downloaded from the Micromine website and provide an alternative to the online help for users working in areas with a poor internet connection.

MICROMINE maintains its leading reputation by regularly releasing new software versions which build upon the strengths of its solutions. This ensures MICROMINE’s solutions continue to meet evolving user needs and industry conditions.

“These new enhancements in Service Pack 2 will assist our clients to increase efficiencies, save time and make decisions with confidence” Gabbitus added.
