Ontario launches $90 million solar rebate program to help save energy, money and the environment

TORONTO, May 8, 2018 /CNW/ – The Green Ontario Fund has announced details of the much-anticipated rebate program for solar PV and energy storage installations. This program will provide qualifying businesses $0.75 per watt for solar panel installations up to 500 kW (AC). Commercial and industrial buildings, which account for nearly 25 per cent of the province’s greenhouse gas emissions, can now begin to assess their rooftops for installation of solar panels. The application window to apply for the rebate is expected to open this summer. Ontario has pledged to cut greenhouse gas pollution to 15 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020, 37 per cent by 2030 and 80 per cent by 2050.

“The environment and the economy go together. That’s why the Government of Canada is working with Ontario to put practical climate solutions into action – and creating good, local jobs and economic opportunities in the process. Investing in energy efficiency pays for itself by saving money, reducing carbon pollution and making our homes and businesses more comfortable and affordable.” – Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change

“We are pleased with the support from the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario to continue the proliferation of solar. This rebate will help businesses decrease their greenhouse gas emissions and save on their electricity bills by reducing their energy consumption.” – Azeem M. Qureshi, CEO, Grasshopper Solar
