Whitehaven Coal sees higher prices on disruptions

On all mine sites in Pennsylvania, operators are required to post bonds in order to guarantee that the reclamation obligations stipulated in the approved mining permit will be met. The bonding program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (PA DEP’s) Bureau of Mining and Reclamation. The methods for calculating bond amounts for coal versus non-coal (i.e., industrial minerals) are different, although the objectives of the bonds are the same.
