TOMRA Sorting’s mining team will be attending MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, which will take place between September 26 and September 28, 2016. TOMRA Sorting’s mining experts will be available at Stand 708 in the North Hall to explain the key advantages sensor-based sorting can bring to mining operations.

Although it is a relatively new technology in the mining sector, sensor-based sorting has the potential to address some of the major challenges the industry now faces: declining ore grades, production costs, water shortages and increasing environmental regulation.

At MINExpo, TOMRA Sorting´s mining specialists will be on-hand ready to meet visitors and clients, learn about brown- and greenfield projects and consider the most efficient means of achieving the specified objectives. TOMRA´s multidisciplinary team will be able to determine realistic opportunities, discuss new trends, and explore established sorting solutions for industrial minerals, diamonds, coal and other segments, sharing their expertise and experience to solve problems and identify all viable options.

Worldwide, TOMRA sorting systems already contributing increased productivity, delivering enhanced processing which is appreciably more energy-efficient, impressively more cost-effective and securing profitable recovery from marginal waste and mining blocks. TOMRA´s sensor-based solutions help to extend the life of mining operations and thus optimise and increase the overall value of deposits.

On the potential of advanced technologies, Tord Svensson, Head of TOMRA Sorting Mining, has commented: “Sensor-based sorting can significantly change the way materials are processed. This has just been proven yet again with the discovery of the Lesedi La Rona, the second largest quality diamond ever found in the history of mining. This remarkable gem-quality stone was recovered by one of our X-ray transmission (XRT) machines at the Karowe Mine in Botswana in November of last year. At TOMRA Sorting we believe many more mining operations can benefit from separation via sensor-based sorting systems and will be at MINExpo to outline precisely how this can be achieved for individual projects.”

About TOMRA Sorting Mining

TOMRA Sorting Mining designs and manufactures sensor-based sorting technologies for the global mining industry. The company’s systems deliver dry material separation of various ores and minerals, including diamonds and other gemstones, in addition to enabling metal recovery from slag. Numerous TOMRA Sorting Mining systems have been installed worldwide, each contributing to extending the lifetime of mining operations and increasing the value derived from deposits.

TOMRA Sorting is owned by Norwegian company TOMRA Systems ASA, which is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Founded in 1972, TOMRA Systems ASA has a turnover of around €650m and employs over 2,600 people.
