Boart Longyear Wins Safety Award from Saskatchewan Mining Association

SALT LAKE CITY – February 9, 2015 – Boart Longyear’s (www.BoartLongyear.com) “safety first” approach to drilling has helped its team in Saskatchewan earn a 2014 SMA Safety Award from the Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA).

The SMA annually recognizes member companies that realized an injury rating of zero. The SMA rating is achieved by a calculation of Lost Time Injury (LTI) and Modified Work Injury (MWI) frequency rate plus 10% of the LTI and MWI severity rate.

“This is a significant accomplishment for Boart Longyear, and it’s another example of the good outcomes that can result from the efforts of operational and safety teams living and breathing safety as a culture,” said General Manager – Drilling Services – North America, Terry Kirkey. “We are proud of our team’s dedication to safety and congratulate them on this prestigious industry award.”

The award was presented to Canada West – Operations Manager Jim Nelson and EHS and Training Advisor Michael Layton during the SMA’s 49th Annual General Meeting in Saskatoon.

Boart Longyear’s “safety first” approach to drilling focuses on keeping people safe with zero injuries, zero illnesses and protecting the environment with zero environmental incidents.

“We recognize that safety is paramount to our employees and critical to our customers’ success, but more importantly, it’s the right thing to do,” said James Chalmers, vice president, environment, health and safety. “Our safety standards, programs, and processes enable drillers to maximize their productivity without compromising their well-being and health. We are proud of our drilling innovations and strive to exceed client expectations when it comes to safe operations.”
