Hatch’s exceptional community outreach helps The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation face off against cancer

(October 28, 2015; Toronto) Their manifesto states: “We are an innovative organization committed to helping our clients achieve unprecedented and sustained business results.” But not all of Hatch’s goals are achieved in their offices. Since their initial involvement four years ago in Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation’s epic fundraising event, Hatch has demonstrated that it is a company that also cares about conquering cancer. They have easily earned the event’s Corporate Challenge Cup for their remarkable participation and fundraising in each of those four years.

Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is a one-day road hockey event in which teams play five games through the course of the day. In 2016, the event will take place on Saturday, September 24.

To illustrate Hatch’s extraordinary support of cancer research at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Hatch participants have raised a staggering $837,450 over the four years they have been involved in Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, including a personal-best $218,615 in 2015.

Bruce MacKay, Hatch’s Managing Director, Systems and Process Control, is the driving force behind this initiative. Much of his motivation is derived from both his family connection to cancer and the focus on linking engineering to cancer research, as supported by the company’s late founder, Gerald Hatch.

“Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is one of Hatch’s major fundraising initiatives in the Greater Toronto Area,” states MacKay. “Cancer has touched the lives of many of our staff and their families, so this cause really hits home. Also, fundraising camaraderie and excitement leading up to and including game day really brings our staff together in the spirit of a great cause.”

“Bruce MacKay and the entire Hatch group have been outstanding partners in Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer,” said Shawn Burt, Chief Hockey Officer at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. “Their passion for our cause, year after year, is exceptional. They are engaged and caring, and we are proud to have them as an integral part of Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, supporting cancer research at The Princess Margaret.”

Hatch’s commitment to conquering cancer is exceptional, and the company vows that they will continue to participate in Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer to support the ground-breaking research at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. And Hatch challenges other engineering firms to step up, and faceoff against cancer at Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer.

Hatch has provided engineering, technology and project delivery services to the mining, metallurgical, energy and infrastructure industries for more than 60 years, and philanthropy is a core value and imperative part of the culture at Hatch, demonstrated, in part, by their commitment to conquering cancer at The Princess Margaret. In Ottawa on October 23, Hatch was awarded the Canadian Consulting Engineers Award for ‘Community Outreach,’ and on November 25, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Greater Toronto Chapter) will present Hatch with its Outstanding Corporation award.
