GABORONE, Botswana (October 15, 2015)Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that it has opened an office in Gaborone, Botswana, which will serve as the company’s operations base to expand and diversify business activities across sub-Saharan Africa. Charles Siwawa, chief executive officer of the Botswana Chamber of Mines, participated along with other business leaders and dignitaries.

“Africa is an emerging economy and Botswana, as one of the continent’s leading democracies, will provide an excellent base for Fluor’s business,” said Rick Koumouris, president of Fluor’s Mining and Metals Group. “We are looking forward to strengthening our ability to serve clients, both existing and new, in this developing region as well as supporting Botswana’s goal to boost local business and employment diversification.”

Fluor has been working in Botswana since the early 2000s and has established a sustainable client base in the country. The company’s first projects included the provision of technical services at the Orapa Diamond Mine, and the successful completion of the Jwaneng Cut 8 and Morupule Coal Mine expansion projects.
