28 May 2015 – Johannesburg: Daniel Avutia, a geotechnical engineer with SRK Consulting in Johannesburg, has won the National Institute of Materials,Minerals and Mining (IOM³) Young Persons’ Lecture Competition for his lecture entitled: Analytical study of sinkhole propagation in South Africa. He will represent South Africa (Africa) at the World Championships in Dublin, Ireland in October 2015 where he will compete with the winners from the other five continents. http://www.iom3.org/world-lecture-competition.
Daniel sits on the SAICE Geotechnical division committee and was a finalist for the prestigious SAICE JE Jennings and Young Engineer of the Year Awards in 2014. He has over five years’ experience in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering and has gained sound theoretical and practical understanding of Geotechnical engineering principles through his post-graduate studies. He has presented at International and National Engineering conferences with technical publications on three continents. His experience also includes soil mechanics; laboratory and field techniques; foundation design; slope stability analysis; ground improvement; road rehabilitation and design; stormwater hydraulics and hydrology design; AutoCAD, SLIDE, PHASE2, LEAPFROG, DIPS.
