Britannia Beach, BC – The Britannia Mine Museum is hosting a special Family Fun Day as part of BC Mining Week on Saturday, May 9th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors of all ages can enjoy family-friendly activities, including:
·       Interpretive Science of Metals talks exploring how metals are used by society,
·       The “What Use are Metals to Me?” family-friendly exhibit,
·       An all-day Lego scavenger hunt for mini-figurines,
·       Live blacksmith demonstrations,
·       A fun and tasty chocolate chip cookie mining activity for kids,
·       Face painting and a costume photo booth,
·       Onsite demonstration of heavy machinery like a fire truck and front-end loader

BC Mining Week takes place May 3-9 with events taking place all over British Columbia, recognizing and celebrating the importance of mining as one of BC’s largest and oldest industries.

The Britannia Mine Museum has an important role in educating the public about the contributions of mining and minerals to society, the 111-year history of the storied Britannia Beach community and the ideas and practices of environmental renewal and sustainability.

At the Britannia Mine Museum provides unique and memorable experiences that engage visitors of all ages. Visitors can enjoy fun exhibits and crowd favourites like the underground mine train, the historic 20-storey concentrator mill and gold panning, and learn about Britannia’s history as one of the largest copper mines in the British Commonwealth in the 1930s.
