Germany Chancellor plans lithium deal with Serbia after Rio ruling
Olaf Scholz plans to visit Serbia this week to secure supplies of lithium that are critical for the nation’s energy transition and auto industry.
Elon Musk thinks hydrogen fuel cell technology that is used for powering cars is “extremely silly” and the reasons why will become “super obvious.”
Musk made the remarks at the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit last month when asked by a reporter why he was so critical of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. (Musk makes the remarks at the 10:08 mark.)
“I don’t want to turn this into a debate, but I think they are extremely silly,” says Musk.
He listed the shortcomings.
“It’s just very difficult to make hydrogen, to store and use it in a car,” says Musk. “Hydrogen is an energy-storage mechanism; it is not a source of energy.”
Musk says fuel cells are half as efficient as batteries. Hydrogen gas is also pernicious molecule and extremely flammable. He says the market will make the case for him.
“It will all become apparent in the next few years. There is no reason for us to have this debate. It will become super obvious as time goes by.”
