n today’s infographic, we count down the Top 10 most impressive civil engineering projects ever endeavoured by humanity. These are projects that transcend time and continue to bestow wonder upon new generations.
As we reflect upon these impressive feats, we wondered what the next big engineering wonder would be. Is it the secretive Nicaragua canal that would rival the canal expansion in Panama? Could it be Elon Musk’s proposed Hyperloop concept? Or perhaps it will be the fabled China-Russia-Canada-US high speed train?
What we do know that budgeting for such projects can be a disaster. The first factor is that the size of the projects can be so large and unique that it is difficult to model the costs and logistics. Another factor is that typically these projects are spearheaded by governments, which are not typically known for their efficiency or budgeting prowess.
