Four First Nation groups from around the Williams Lake area released today their own set of mining rules to apply to all existing and proposed mining projects within its traditional territory.
The group is comprised of the Xat’sull, T’exelc, Tsq’escen’ and Stswecem’c/Xgat’tem First Nations. The four claim a traditional territory of over 5 million hectares in the Cariboo and Chilcotin region of central British Columbia, the Secwepemc Nation.
Authors of the document say policy will cover everything from staking a claim to commitments to clean up old mine sites. The policy, however, does not override BC laws.
“With this mining policy we can no longer be ignored or imposed upon, and the Province and industry can no longer claim they do not know how to work with us – this document spells that out in clear, specific terms,” says Chief Sellars of the Xat’sull (Soda Creek), in a news release entitled First Nations Establish Clear Mining Policy and Rules for Resource Companies.
The news release was published on the Northern Shuswap Tribal Council’s Facebook page.
Read the policy below.

Its about time the provincial government demonstrates that its in charge and represents the majority of people in this province ! Indigenous people throughout the world over centuries only respect strong authority figures under a feudal system ( even those Chiefs that steal all the money while allowing the rest of the tribe to live in squalor). Enough is enough ! Its now past time for BC resident to say they want all people treated fairly and with respect – this includes non-natives too !

Americans are pretty apathetic about American Indians. They don’t really care one
way or another about them.
Canadians, on the other hand greatly “dislike” (despise)
the First Nations Tribes. If you read comments at Yahoo Canada it does not take long to realize that Canadians resent the First Nations Tribes for doing nothing but complain about everything and then getting a free check each month.
Do you know how hard it is to get the peace, love, hippie type Canadians to hate?

its only the recent afrikaneers that immigrated in huge numbers bringing their apratheid attitudes with them, what is disturbing is that neither the provincial nore federal governments disclosed the huge numbers allowed to arrive over nite, and ALL were allowed to bring their credentials with them getting government paid jobs and pushing out canadian born people, add to the insult is the negative apartheid attitudes espoused by them in every day living— go home afrikaneers, or the next boer war starts in bc

A reasonable person only needs to read the opening “Whereas” Clause i, to see where the whole thing is going.
Some lawyer made some money writing this thing up. I hope they were really well compensated.
7.2.4 provides the basis of their approval
part a. says see guiding principles clause 3 (there is nothing there except you need to talk to us)
part b says net benefit decided by NStQ (anyway)
part c (even if c is true) we will think of other reasons which we don’t currently think about.
Its a great document and achieves precisely what they want, no mining. They can’t declare themselves a sovereign nation because instantly there would be no money, education, health services – hence a set of rules a pole vaulter can’t leap because the end result is always a vague ..and we will think about it..
Greedy and seedy politics pure and simple.

well since the feds and bc governments have lied about the rights being sold to citizens, certainly a class action lawsuit can be brought against both, every bc resident, past and present, living or dead, should be compensated their house purchases, mining investments, government fees at a net present value, fair is fair, selling the rights that never existed is a sham

“NStQ will base its decisions on Traditional Knowledge and scientific knowledge”
“NStQ may refuse to disclose information, including Traditional Knowledge”
brilliant! nothing like exempting your decisions from criticism, removing your land from exploration and expecting other people to supply the natural resources to support your lifestyle!
