Tenova TAKRAF expands specialised handling range with Magaldi Superbelt®
Tenova TAKRAF Africa’s leading range of specialised handling equipment has been enhanced with the addition of the unique Magaldi Superbelt® technology from Magaldi, of Italy, a global supplier of industrial systems and plants for bulk material handling at high temperatures. Tenova TAKRAF Africa is the open pit mining and materials handling specialist of the total technology solutions provider, Tenova Mining & Minerals.
The strong synergies between the Magaldi and Tenova TAKRAF Africa technologies offer both companies exciting new market opportunities. As the Magaldi Superbelt® can withstand higher temperatures than any other technologies available, it is an ideal fit with Tenova TAKRAF Africa’s existing equipment range, enabling it to expand into hot bulk materials handling. For Magaldi, Tenova TAKRAF Africa offers access to the market in South Africa, through its well entrenched reputation as a leader in the supply of niche technologies for specialised handling.
Previously known as Bateman Engineered Technologies prior to the Tenova acquisition, Tenova TAKRAF Africa has an extensive reference list in the Southern African mining and general industry, covering a range of specialised handling equipment. This includes en masse chain conveyors and elevators, as well as pipe, pneumatic and vacuum conveyors.
High-temperature and impact resistant, the Magaldi Superbelt® is especially suited to applications in foundries, steel plants, mineral processing and power plants. It is made up of a steel mesh belt, which carries partially overlapping steel pans to form a virtually sealed belt conveyor. The patented method of connecting the pans to the belt leaves all components free to expand in any direction, without permanent deformation.
This technology also offers numerous environmental advantages, including low noise levels and power usage, enclosed conveying to prevent dust emissions and spillage, as well as conveying up to 35o inclination. The technology has a long life as there is no relative movement between the belt and handled material.
The Magaldi Superbelt® technology is applied in different configurations over a broad range of high-temperature material handling applications. For example, the Magaldi Ecobelt® is the ideal conveyor for handling hot materials, aggressive chemicals and heavy or sharp products. The Magaldi Superbelt® HD conveyor is suitable for the heaviest applications, such as the transportation of steel scraps.
The Magaldi technologies have also proved to be highly successful for the safe handling and transportation of raw materials and ash produced by coal fired power plants, thereby assisting energy utilities to reduce the polluting load from power generation. For example, the Mac® Magaldi Ash Cooler is a unique system for “dry” extraction, air cooling and mechanical handling of bottom ash from pulverised coal-fired boilers, of any size and burning any kind of solid fuel.
The Magaldi Group was founded in 1929 and has carried out almost 1,000 projects worldwide.
