Water Saving Foam Resin, Tarsheed Initiative launched at WFES 2014

Abu Dhabi, 21 Jan. 2014: An innovative water saving foam has been launched today at the World Future Energy Summit 2014 as a response to the challenge to conserve water resources in Abu Dhabi. This foam provides the perfect medium for water to be captured in volumes of up to 60 percent and then efficiently released back into the soil to be absorbed by plant roots .

The foam is being introduced by a newly launched company Tarsheed, which is a subsidiary of Exeed Industries.

Tarsheed’s Innovative Water Saving Foam

“There is a need to intensify water conservation now as this basic resource is becoming scarce and the cost of making it available to the community is increasing. We need out of the box thinking combined with technology and public awareness. Tarsheed is introducing a solution that would help in saving water with all sectors, through this water saving resin foam”, said Bilal Chafic Jadayel, General Manager of Tarsheed.

When mixed with soil as a substrate, or used on its own in a hydroponic environment , the foam slowly discharges its water content in amounts just enough to irrigate plants with hardly any wastage.  The foam prevents excessive water run-off, reduces wastage and contributes to efficient water utilization.

Mr. Jadayel added that the product is composed of a mere 3% dry matter and the remaining 97% is hollow, allowing water and air storage, both highly beneficial to  plants. The product itself is completely biodegradable without effecting  soil health .

Tarsheed is part of Exeed Industries, a diversified and specialized manufacturing industrial company.

Dr. Kamel Abdullah, CEO of Exeed Industries said, “We are very proud to launch Tarsheed and its innovative products as part of our continuing commitment to sustainability. In line with the goals of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, water saving is our business as it is also our corporate social responsibility. We are committed to pursuing sustainability in all our business ventures under Exeed Industries, with Tarsheed as a leading example of what we have in the pipeline.”

Dr. Kamel added that both  foam and Tarsheed contribute to the business case that pursuing sustainability provides greater economic stability, the driving force behind the success of Exeed Industries.

The UAE is in one of the driest regions of the world where ensuring water supply remains a persistent challenge to sustainability. In addition, the country has one of the highest per capita water consumption rates in the world which in turn adds to its huge ecological footprint. Innovative solutions are needed by the water sector of the country to address this important issue.

Tarsheed offers the product as a comprehensive solution to conventional ways of saving water by offering a resin-based foam that will retain water and prevent water run-off during irrigation. The resin could be used in a variety of ways ranging from landscaping to sports and leisure, as well as hydrophonic gardens.

The product is fittingly launched in line with the World Future Energy Summit 2014 that is being held in Abu Dhabi. This yearly event features the best products and ideas in the sustainability market from all over the world. The resin foam introduced by Tarsheed provides a practical solution to any type of water challenge in agriculture and related fields. The application of the product is wide ranging.

Tarsheed is being launched as part of Exeed’s continuing commitment to water saving in Abu Dhabi. The launch was attended by members of the media, key people in environmental agencies, consultants, scientists and the general public.
