VISTA Training Inc. Recognized with Major Award for Training Excellence in Canada

VISTA Training Inc., Waterford, WI (January 8, 2014) – VISTA Training Inc., has been recognized with a Gold Award for Blended Learning from the Canadian Society for Training & Development (CSTD) as part of its 2013 Canadian Awards for Training Excellence. VISTA achieved this recognition for its innovative TruckLogic™ training curriculum, used by surface mines to help increase the safety and productivity of their haul truck operators.

TruckLogic™ was first used by Suncor Energy at its Millennium Mine near Fort McMurray, Alberta. In a three-month pilot test with new haul truck operators, TruckLogic™ resulted in a 50 percent drop in incidents and a 4.5 percent increase in productivity.

VISTA received the only Gold Award given in the blended learning category. This honor validates that TruckLogic™ meets the highest standards for best practices in workplace learning. Its innovative design also provides a meaningful, memorable and motivational learning experience that helps to drive improvements in safety and productivity. CSTD also named eight Silver Award recipients in the category of blended learning.

Award winners were selected based upon rigorous criteria drawn from CSTD’s Competencies for Training and Development Professionals, the standard of practice for training and development professionals in Canada. Award submissions are reviewed by experienced peers in the country’s learning and development community. Winning entries exemplify best practices in learning and often incorporate innovative elements that make them stand out, both in terms of effectiveness and documented business results.

Blended learning refers to a training program that employs multiple modalities or approaches, integrated into a curriculum that is designed to improve learning and knowledge retention of adult trainees. TruckLogic™ incorporates computer-based training (CBTs), mining truck simulation software and replica controls supplied by Simlog – a Canadian developer of heavy equipment simulators – structured on-the-job training activities and a comprehensive train-the-trainer program to help improve the safety and productivity of mining operations.

“We’re honored that our peers have selected TruckLogic™ as the only Gold Level award winner in Blended Learning, crediting it as one of the best-designed and implemented training programs in Canada,” said Bruce Rabe, CEO of VISTA Training. “It validates our innovative approach to help aid knowledge transfer from the computer lab to in-the-field performance and safety enhancement,” he added.
