Nutrien names insider Mark Thompson as CFO amid mixed results
Thompson, who has been with Nutrien for 13 years and currently serves as chief commercial officer, will assume his new role on August 26.
Johannesburg, South Africa, 17 December 2013 – Tenova Mining & Minerals today announced that its South African black empowered operating arm, Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa, has been awarded a significant materials handling contract by Sasol Mining. The award forms part of Sasol Mining’s Tweedraai expansion project in Secunda, South Africa, which will see part of the Syferfontein mine being replaced.
This is one of Sasol’s projects which are underway to ensure that they have modern replacement operations to replace some of Sasol’s long-standing, but depleting, mines. The project includes the use of optimised steel structures and designs utilising advanced technologies, which have been developed in-house over the past decade by Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa’s trading division, Tenova TAKRAF Africa. The company is a leading open pit mining, underground solutions and bulk handling specialist and will design and execute the project.
The new conveyor system includes the design and installation of three conveyors totaling 3 km, which will convey coal at 4 800 tonnes per hour design capacity. Electrical and instrumentation systems, as well as bulk earthworks and civil foundations for the conveyor system and transfer towers, also form part of the contract.
The award is the culmination of ongoing engagement between Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa and Sasol Mining, a business of the international integrated energy and chemical company, Sasol. Tenova has been involved from initiation of the proposal phase, with its focus being on fully meeting the client’s requirements, whilst at the same time, ensuring a technically and commercially superior bid.
