Chart: Which countries are falling behind in gold mine production
India tops the global ranking with demand nearly 50 times that of its mined supply.
Connemara Mining Company (LON:CON) scored big Monday after the Irish government granted it 10 prospecting licenses covering gold, silver and base metals in the Stranorlar region of Donegal, Ireland.
In a statement, the gold miner said historical records of the Donegal area show certain anomalies consistent with gold, while the geology shares similarities with the major gold discoveries by Dalradian Resources and others in the country’s North.
The Toronto-based company is chaired by mining entrepreneur John Teeling, founder and chairman of Botswana Diamonds (LON:BOD).
Beyond folkloric stories of leprechaun searching for gold, Ireland has a history of gold discoveries spanning over two thousand years, back to the ancient Celtic Kings. But the first modern gold mine came into production only six years ago, operated by Canadian Galantas (LON:GAL).

Since when does a government have the right to allow mining in a country, skipping the citizens entirely, getting bribes like Ireland does, and in ‘stealing’ natural resources for the ‘GOVERNMENT+CORPORATION MEANS EVERYBODY GETS RICH BUT THE CITIZENS, GLOBALLY. These natural resources WILL pay for the survival and development of countries benefiting citizens. Wait and see.
