Trolex Launches Precise Carbon Monoxide Detector Unaffected By The Presence Of Diesel Fumes

Trolex has launched Sentro D a patent pending carbon monoxide detector capable of giving precise CO level readings in the presence of diesel NOx.

Trolex, one of the leaders in gas detection and environmental monitoring for the mining industry, was asked to develop the product which is used to filter out the background NOx gases to give accurate CO level indications. Measuring diesel fumes in the mining and tunnelling environments have been increasingly in the forefront of legislative news lately with MSHA proposing an information collection on health standards for Diesel Particulate Matter Exposure in Underground Coal Mines this month.

The Trolex Sentro D is a high accuracy carbon monoxide detector featuring Trolex gas discriminator technology (patent pending) which filters out background mono nitrogen oxides (NOx) gases and prevents the gas sensor reading from becoming inaccurate which can set off false alarms and cause production disruption. The Sentro D gives the most accurate carbon monoxide readings possible in environments rich in diesel fumes which is used as an indicator of fire in some hazardous environments.

The Sentro D is a very compact single housed unit. Based on proven Trolex Sentro technology which has been installed in numerous mines across the world, the heart of Sentro D is the eModule. The eModule is an intelligent standardised gas sensing module that detects carbon monoxide at levels of 0 to 50 ppm. Built-in fixed limits are checked against to detect if the sensing element is over or under sensitive. Two user adjustable alarm set-points allows configurable alarm levels appropriate to a user’s operating scenario.

The Sentro D is easy to install, calibrate and maintain. The RS485 output signal is able to interface directly with intrinsically safe equipment, and can be networked to a PC via a barrier for central control and monitoring. The Sentro D can be easily serviced and calibrated by simply changing the eModule which can be done in seconds and with the power still applied.

Trolex systems and products are relied on the world over to detect gases, monitor other key environmental conditions and optimise machinery performance in the mining and tunnelling industries. They are intrinsically safe, carry independent accreditation and are at the forefront of safety and condition monitoring technology.
