Thermo Fisher Scientific to Showcase Technologies for Advancing Mining at Exposibram 2013

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil (September 23, 2013) – Mining managers, engineers and technicians can view the extensive portfolio of Thermo Scientific instruments, equipment and software for advancing mining during Exposibram 2013, one of Latin America’s largest trade fairs for the mining industry, taking place from September 23-26, 2013. Featured within Thermo Scientific booth H15 are density gauges, conveyor belt scales and weighbelt feeders, field and laboratory elemental analyzers, online slurry analyzers and laboratory information management software (LIMS).

“We have a broad portfolio and deep knowledge and expertise to help customers make informed decisions about their process, from exploration through processing,” said Markus Schreyer, vice president and general manager for Thermo Fisher’s Brazil and South American operations. “As the mining industry continues to change, however, we’re constantly bringing new technologies and methods to the marketplace to maximize the efficiency and profitability of exploration activities and mining operations.”

Among the technologies featured within the Thermo Scientific booth are:

  • The Thermo Scientific Ramsey Micro-Tech 9000 electronics platform provides enhanced communications and connectivity for weighing and monitoring applications. Built-in Ethernet and USB capabilities improve system communication and prevent downtime by enabling independent load cell troubleshooting. The Ramsey Micro-Tech 9000 electronics are integrated into Thermo Scientific conveyor belt scales and weighbelt feeders.
  • The Thermo Scientific GS Omni provides real-time elemental analysis of up to eight slurry streams. As the only prompt gamma neutron activation analysis (PGNAA) slurry analyzer on the market today, the GS Omni measures both heavy elements and elements lighter than calcium. Factory calibrated for slurry applications, the instrument enables precise process control that is intended to improve product quality, increase recovery and lower production costs.
  • The Thermo Scientific Niton Field X-Ray Lab (FXL), equipped with the z-CAL calibration and operation methodology for light elemental analysis, is designed to enables users to more accurately detect oil-bearing strata, improve mud-logging and support geo-steering. For users requiring higher performance, the Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t Ultra Performance Package includes a larger silicon drift detector, field-portable sample preparation tools and a He purge system for improved light element analysis. Like all Niton XL3t analyzers, it includes embedded GPS functionality for automatically combining analytical results and GPS coordinates into the same dataset. Also on display are the Thermo Scientific Direct Rock Sampler Kit and Thermo Scientific Electric Hammer Mill Kit, which can be used with all Niton XRF instruments.
  • The Thermo Scientific ARL 9900 Series XRF-XRD spectrometers provide central labs with reliable analysis of elements and compounds in minerals and rocks. The Thermo Scientific ARL PERFORM’X analyzer augments typical elemental analyses on pelletized or fused mineral samples with an ability to analyze small spots of 0.5mm and perform elemental mapping of rock or mineral samples.
