Antofagasta expects 2024 copper output at low end of yearly forecast
Antofagasta produced 284,700 metric tons of copper in the first half, down 3.7% from the same period in 2023.
Engineers may be the butt of many jokes but today its engineers that are laughing.
According to data obtained from Statistics Canada by the Vancouver Sun, mining engineers have the third-highest paying job in British Columbia, earning a median annual salary of $120,122.
That’s higher than doctors, lawyers and chemical engineers.
Supervisors in mineral and metal processing scored an average of $86,573 while mine labourers averaged $74,298 – ahead of psychologists, teachers and nurses.
The lowest-paying mining job in BC, inspecting and testing, had a median annual salary of $54,158.
We should also note that BC’s mining company executives aren’t doing too bad either.
According to a Business in Vancouver list, the province’s top paid mining head in 2012 was Paul Wright, CEO of Eldorado Gold Corp. (NYSE:EGO) In fact, out of the top 10 spots on that list, only three didn’t belong to mining companies.
