Gold mining pays $87,000 per year at Quebec mine

Osisko Mining (TSE:OSK) says the average salary for one its miners is $87,000, 66% higher than the average wage in the surrounding area.

The Quebec miner filed a  local and regional economic impact study with the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment, Wildlife and Parks and announced the findings on its website.

The Malartic Mine in Quebec is the largest open pit gold mine in Canada.

Other highlights from the report were the following:

  • Supports nearly 1,600 jobs in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, including 635 direct jobs at the mine site;
  • Supports a payroll of more than $100 million through direct and indirect jobs;
  • Makes purchases of over $290 million annually in Abitibi-Témiscamingue;
