SGS Receives Business Leadership/Entrepreneurial Innovation Award

SGS is honoured to receive the Business Leadership / Entrepreneurial Innovation award, presented annually by the County of Peterborough. This award is presented in recognition of new and successful initiatives undertaken by local  businesses that make outstanding contributions to the County. SGS Canada Inc.’s Lakefield facility was presented the Business Leadership/Entrepreneurial Innovation award during the County of Peterborough 2013 Recognition Awards, held May 24, 2013 in Norwood, Ontario.

The Lakefield site was recognized for its recent expansion initiative, a new 41,000 square foot geochemistry laboratory. This new building will not only allow SGS to provide superior geochemistry services, it will also allow the highly regarded Environmental Services group more room to expand their services and continue to flourish in the existing facilities. The company was also recognized for its continued success in the mining industry, its many investments in the facilities and staff of the site and the resulting positive impact on the local community. This unparalleled growth and continued high achievement is directly due to the expertise, dedication and determination of the Lakefield staff.

The new facility is part of a fully integrated geochemistry, environmental, metallurgy and mineralogy laboratory complex that is a primary hub in the SGS global network of laboratories. The Lakefield site is internationally recognized as a centre of excellence across these disciplines and a critical part of SGS’ 2014 Growth Plan. The comprehensive list of services is the result of SGS’ dedicated response to the continued demand from the mining industry. SGS is known throughout the industry as the world’s leading provider of bankable minerals services.

Established in 1941, the Lakefield facility is a flagship lab in SGS Canada Inc.’s overall business and has earned the respect of the global minerals sector for the chemical analysis, metallurgical testing and laboratory outsourcing activities performed there. In 1989, the Environmental Services department was added and has further contributed to the site’s reputation for excellence by providing timely, cost effective, environmental solutions and superior customer service.
