NASA’s rover Curiosity, send to yield as much information as possible about Mars’ geological past, offers a detailed look at the Red Planet to those of us stuck to our earthly desks.
The 1.3 billion-pixel images, which include zoom, can be seen at mars.nasa.gov/bp1/.
Of particular interest to NASA during Curiosity’s voyage is Mount Sharp, a central mound which rises 5.47 km from the bottom of the Gale Crater.
Mount Sharp is said to hold an “extensive sequence of sediments preserving clues to the geologic past of Mars, waiting to be deciphered.”
