Barrick’s quarterly gold and copper output edges higher
Barrick Gold's second-quarter gold output edged up by almost 0.9% from the previous three months.
American environmental lawyer Robert Kennedy Jr. will visit the Albertan oilsands, reports the Canadian Press.
Environmentalists and aboriginals have invited him to visit Fort McMurray, in the north of the province, during the July 1 Canada Day long weekend.
He will try to understand the benefits of the oilsands to the country’s economy, Kennedy told CP, although he doesn’t expect the tour to change his opinion. He also hopes to meet with producers in the oil industry.
Kennedy is a professor at Pace Law School in White Plains, New York, as well as co-director of the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic. He is also a senior attorney for the New York-based Natural Resources Defense Council.
He is one of the most well-known and high profile critics in the US of the Keystone XL pipeline project.
Last February, Kennedy was arrested in front of the White House during a protest opposing the completion of the project.

Robert, there are Billions invested in the Canadian Oilsands, the industry has advance every year, in lowering emissions, reducing the need for tailings ponds, reducing sulphur production and safely delivering over 2,000,000 barrels of oil to the USA every day, 365 days a year. There are now wars fought to secure oil from Canada. For every dollar spent on Canadian oil, there is a large portion returned directly back to the USA since we are each others largest trading partners.
I work with many Americans here in the Oilsands and we proudly are doing things right for the environment, for the communities, for the Country and for a strong and secure future.
I trust you will see out strong efforts in land reclamation, tailings pond elimination, reforestation and community involvement and support.
