BioteQ announces new pilot project in BC’s Elk Valley

Vancouver based environmental technology company BioteQ has just announced their new pilot project for selenium removal up in Canada’s British Columia’s Elk Valley.

Regulations in both Canada and the US related to allowable levels of selenium in mining wastewater are tightening, creating new challenges for mine operators who are also under greater scrutiny from a growing number of stakeholders.

BioteQ, who has recently teamed up with Teck Resources Limited to implement a pilot test of their innovative Selen-IX™ technology at Teck’s facilities in BC’s Elk Valley. The pilot will begin in over the summer and will prove both Teck Resources and BioteQ the ability to prove successful lab results in a true field test setting.

BioteQ’s Selen-IX™ is an advanced ion exchange technology that provides cost-effective removal of selenium from mine impacted waters. Selen-IX™ can be seamlessly integrated into mining operations in even the most remote locations, with the flexibility to work with low to high volumes of water.  The technology is valuable to industry in that while it can help meet growing regulatory requirements, it is also flexible in its application – with an ability to ramp up or down with the changes in mining operations volumes.
