An accident at Rio Tinto Alcan’s Alma facility in Lac-Saint Jean, Quebec resulted in a worker getting killed.
The incident is being investigated. The name of the employee and the time of the death was not released.
The company has suspended the activities at the facility’s anode plant until further notice.
“This is very sad news for Rio Tinto Alcan as there is nothing more important to us than the security, the safety and well-being of our employees. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with the employee’s family and co-workers”, said Etienne Jacques, chief operating officer, primary metal, North America for Rio Tinto Alcan.
The employee’s family has been notified, and Rio Tinto Alcan is providing its full support during this difficult time.
