Court decision protects BASF’s intellectual property

Melbourne, Australia – April 16, 2013 BASF welcomes the Australian High Court’s decision to uphold findings that SNF has infringed BASF’s Rheomax® ETD patents and that those patents are valid. The decision marks the end of proceedings in Australia, which commenced in 2008.

Steffen Kudis, head of BASF’s Global Water, Oilfield and Mining Solutions businesses, said, “BASF is committed to providing customers with innovative, effective technologies and solutions. To achieve this , BASF must be able to protect its investment in years of research and development and intellectual property rights.”

The Rheomax® ETD Technology is part of BASF’s innovative solutions for Tailings Management. ETD (Enhanced Tailings Disposal) is a method of tailings management in which novel technology is used to change and control the structural and drainage properties of mineral processing residues.
