Germany Chancellor plans lithium deal with Serbia after Rio ruling
Olaf Scholz plans to visit Serbia this week to secure supplies of lithium that are critical for the nation’s energy transition and auto industry.
Iran has been struck by its biggest earthquake in almost four decades, reportedly killing hundreds of people in what is the second deadly quake in the country in less than a week.
The epicentre of the 7.8 magnitude quake was near the southeast city of Khash, close to the Pakistani border, with strong tremors felt across India and the Middle East, the US Geological Survey said.
The worst hit area, along Iran’s southeastern border, is home to nearly 2 million people, but unlike last week’s quake, this one didn’t seem to have affected any of the nuclear reactors in the country.

Iranian state TV reported at least 40 people killed, but the New York Times reports Iranian government officials said the expected hundreds of deaths.
