SGS Multi-Purpose Commercial Laboratory In Monrovia, Liberia Now Offering Low Level Gold Analyses

SGS is pleased to announce that their new multi-purpose laboratory, equipped for iron ore and gold analysis and metallurgical testing, in Monrovia, Liberia now offers low level gold by aqua regia digest. This laboratory is strategically located to service the growing needs of the gold and iron ore minerals exploration industry in West Africa and has been operational for the past 14 months.

The Monrovia laboratory can perform the following geochemical procedures:
• Fire assay with atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) and gravimetric finish for gold
• Low level gold analysis by aqua regia digest with AAS finish
• X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis for iron ores
• Carbon and sulphur by infrared combustion (using LECO)
• Thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) for iron ores
• ASTM methods that cover screening and particle size analysis for iron ores

In addition to geochemical analysis, this facility is equipped to perform basic magnetic testing for iron ore characterization by Davis Tube testing and Satmagan analysis.

The laboratory in Liberia is part of SGS’ regional West African expansion program and has been designed to offer integrated service packages under one roof. Clients will benefit from this integrated approach to projects through better planning of testwork resources. This results in projects progressing quickly through each stage and achieving faster speed-to-market with the confidence that reports meet industry requirements.

The facility will strategically support the growing needs of the global minerals industry and complement SGS’ unmatched network of over 150 commercial, on-site and Mobile Sample Preparation Unit (MSPU) geochemical laboratories, 12 metallurgical facilities, 5 mineralogy facilities, over 120 energy minerals labs, 33 fertilizer labs and 75 trade offices. Of these sites, 5 labs located in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile and South Africa provide fully integrated geochemistry, environmental, metallurgy and mineralogy (GEMM) services and 3 provide integrated geochemistry-metallurgy services in Liberia, Peru and Russia. Many of SGS’ geochemistry laboratories comply with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard for specific registered tests.
