A fraught election just reshaped the next steps for deep sea mining
Brazilian oceanographer Leticia Carvalho has been elected the next secretary-general of the ISA, a leadership change that could slow the rush to strip-mine deep sea ecosystems.
GEOVIA, formerly known as Gemcom Software prior to acquisition in 2012 by Dassault Systèmes, has released the latest version of the InSite mine production management and reconciliation software. InSite 4.3 provides users with even more operational visibility through new and improved tools for data analysis and advanced tools to reconcile production outputs and activities against what was planned.
Identifying variances and the causes behind them is now made easier with the new Variance Analysis module. Now future variances can be reduced by providing the justification required to update models, plans and schedules. Companies will also benefit from the ability to see production activities as they happen, to ensure they are performing efficiently at all times.
“InSite provides greater confidence in the accuracy of our monthly production. The mine and wash plant have visibility of the variances between plan and actual,” said Simon Ewart, Operations Superintendent at Stanwell’s Meandu Mine. “Visual representation of mining progress helps to validate activity hours and provide accurate reporting to contractors. Reconciliation has never been easier.”
InSite 4.3 highlights:
· A new Variance Analysis module enables a deeper understanding of the causes of variance through the ability to compare plans and actuals for any mining activity.
· Variances for any activity can now been seen via the convenient new “heat map” feature, which helps pinpoint and categorise large and small variances before they become systemic problems.
· Users may quickly drill down into the different recorded details of an activity to investigate the impact of compounding variance on different contributors such as employees, equipment, material types, and others.
· A new production progress feature offers a fast and easy graphical way to monitor the progress of current activities, or review the outcomes of past ones. Activity information in InSite coming from real-time-data integration from external applications such as fleet management, or InSite’s Data Entry module, can be monitored as soon as data is captured by the system.
· GEMS users who import vector maps into InSite’s Central Monitoring module now have automated functionality for location allocation.
