Caterpillar Introduces D11T Track-Type Tractor with New Safety Enhancements, Low-Emissions Engine and Productivity-Boosting Cab

For Worldwide Release: July 2008

Release Number: 299PR08

The Cat® D11T Track-Type Tractor delivers reliable performance, long life and lowest-cost-per-ton production in mining and other high-volume dozing applications. The new machine also is offered in an optional CarryDozer configuration (D11T CD) to maximize productivity when moving large loads over long distances or up steep slopes. Both the D11T and D11T CD offer enhancements for the operator-such as a hydraulically actuated access ladder and a two-camera Work Area Vision System (WAVS). A Cat C32 engine provides clean, fuel-efficient power; a new cab improves comfort and productivity; and advanced electronics make the D11T easier to operate and service.

New features accommodate operators and technicians

The D11T and D11T CD incorporate many new and updated features to accommodate operators and technicians. Getting on and off the machine is easier than ever, thanks to a hydraulically actuated access ladder, available as an option. An optional rear walkway with a 505-gallon (1987-liter) fuel tank makes it easier to clean rear and side windows and to access the rear lights for maintenance. WAVS, an optional rear-vision camera system, improves visibility and can be ordered with one or two cameras.

Standard features include the external ROPS/FOPS structure, which offers protection for the operator, and the ergonomically designed T-Series cab, which helps reduce operator fatigue and promotes efficient machine operation. The nine-lamp HID lighting package, designed especially for mining, enhances visibility during night operation. The fender lights can be left on for up to 10 minutes and will turn off automatically, allowing the operator to exit the machine at night while the area is illuminated.

Two under-hood service lamps illuminate the engine compartment for safer, faster service in dark conditions. A disconnect switch locks out all electrical power when necessary, and a second switch cuts power to the starter only, while keeping main power available for diagnostics.

High power, low emissions, long life

An 850-hp (634-kW) Cat C32 Engine powers the D11T and D11T CD. It is a large-displacement engine with 21 percent torque rise for responsive power needed when dozing tough materials. The engine features ACERT® Technology, a Cat emissions-reduction solution that optimizes performance, life and fuel economy, while meeting U.S. EPA Tier 2 and EU Stage II emissions regulations. System-matched to a high-efficiency torque converter and electronically controlled transmission, this reliable engine will provide years of dependable service in demanding conditions.

Productivity enhancing control systems

Operators work productively in the T-Series cab, field-proven on the D8T, D9T and D10T. The work environment is spacious, well-ventilated and designed to minimize noise and vibration. It offers a clear, panoramic view to the job site with 30 percent more glass area. A standard Cat Comfort Seat and adjustable armrests and controls reduce fatigue. An easy-to-read instrument panel keeps the operator informed, and the Advisor Monitoring System delivers other critical information to operators and technicians.

Electro-hydraulic controls make the D11T and D11T CD easy to operate productively over long shifts. The dozer control can be programmed using the Advisor panel to preset blade response, blade float, blade pitch and spread rate. The ripper control is also programmable with features such as Auto Lift, Shank Out and Auto Stow.

To boost productivity in high-production jobs with carry distances that exceed 100 feet (30.5 meters), the machine can be ordered with AutoCarry. This option provides automatic blade control (raise and lower only) during the carry segment of the dozing cycle. Computer Aided Earthmoving System (CAES) also is available as an option to increase productivity by guiding the operator in placing material in the right place the first time. Both the D11T and D11T CD can be ordered in a CAES-ready configuration.

More standard features

Several features that were attachments on the D11R are standard on the T-Series model. A quick oil-change system for engine and drive train oil cuts maintenance time. Ripper hydraulics, a 120-volt engine block heater and an extra 15-amp electrical converter also are standard.

The new track-type tractor retains the strengths of past models, including durable structures, rugged drive train and undercarriage components, and a broad selection of Cat work tools and ground engaging tools. This combination of proven qualities and valuable new features makes the D11T Track-Type Tractor and the D11T CarryDozer low-cost-per-ton solutions for mining and other high-production dozing applications.
