New book ‘102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground‘ spotlights global reclamation projects
Stories of reinvented coal mining regions, regenerated communities and rebuilt ecosystems are told in a new book published this month.
Canada’s eastern province of Nova Scotia is reeling up for a major protest from mining companies based in the area, as they double their efforts to reject a tax they must pay for fuel.
According to the Chronicle Herald, the Mining Association of Nova Scotia will distribute to journalists and the province’s 52 MLAs signs that say, “Closed for Business,” to complaint against the fuel levy.
The body says that Nova Scotia is the only Canadian province that taxes resource companies for fuel used on mine sites and lifting it would save them $2.6 million a year.
