Germany’s Chancellor plans lithium deal with Serbia after Rio ruling
Olaf Scholz plans to visit Serbia this week to secure supplies of lithium that are critical for the nation’s energy transition and auto industry.
A recent spate of cave-ins caused by coal mining has left the town of Fukou in Hunan speckled with over 20 large craters.
China.org.cn reports that unregulated coal mining in the central Chinese province has compromised the area’s underground water system, in turn triggering cave-ins in farm land and along river banks.
The cave-ins have damaged houses as well as stanched the supply of water to around 4,000 local residents and 33 hectares of farmland.
Cave-ins caused by mining have afflicted various parts of China following the expansion of the country’s resource sector. Last year in February 700 cave-ins were reported in Yuejiaqiao in Hunan province, affecting around 1,200 people.
