Mining’s old guard needs strong medicine
A new report details subpar investor returns in the mining industry over the last decade, particularly big cap diversified companies which have not adapted to new realities.
ALROSA has announced the start of stripping works at the Botuobinskaya open-pit diamond mine.
Commercial diamond mining at the Botuobinskaya mine is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2015.
The ore from the Botuobinskaya pipe will be processed at the Nyurba processing plant.
When the pipe reaches its design capacity of 300,000 metric tons (mt) of ore per year, rough diamond output will be 1.5 million carats per year.
Botuobinskaya has diamond reserves of over 70 million carats under the JORC standards with the diamond grade being 5.13 carats per mt.
The mine’s development will compensate for the declining production at the nearby Nyurba mine, which has been in operation since 2000.
