Mexico’s proposed higher mining royalties could block nearly $7bn in investments
The Mexican government proposed raising mining royalties under the argument that metal prices have risen in recent years.
In 2010 about 1.9 million US jobs were directly and indirectly related to mining.
And while America is still shaking off the effects of the financial crisis in 2008, the mining sector has proven a stabilizer for resource-rich states

There are a couple of errors in this article.
1. Goldstrike is a Barrick mine. They are not separate companies.
2. Bagdad Copper is a Freeport-MacMoran company, and only one of the mines in Arizona which make Freeport such a significant contributor to Arizona’s economy.
