Chinalco could invest $426 million in Suriname bauxite project
If approved by parliament, Chinalco could begin construction by the middle of next year.
Carbon mining company Cerrejon, a joint venture of BHP Billiton, Anglo American and Xstrata, has decided to postpone a study into the possible diversion of the Rencheria river, in La Guajira, Colombia.
The main reason given for suspending the study is the weak carbon price experienced over the last two years.
The proposal to divert the river is part of a long-term project of the company to increase carbon production by 50 million tons per year.
Cerrejon announced that it will continue to analyze other alternatives to the diversion of the river.
