Copper miners in Chile urge for investments in Ventanas mine to prevent its closure

Mining unions in Chile have asked the government to carry out the necessary investments to guarantee production at the Ventanas copper mine.

Unions have sent letters to president Sebastian Piñera and Codelco urging them to invest in the modernization of the mine in order to ensure that the mine creates less pollution and is therefore not forced to be shut down because of the issue.

The unions argued that a budget for improvements exists, since only USD 40 million has been invested out of estimated budget of USD 170 million.
