Mexico’s proposed higher mining royalties could block nearly $7bn in investments
The Mexican government proposed raising mining royalties under the argument that metal prices have risen in recent years.
Around 4,500 citizens of Esquel, Argentina, protested against the mega-mining projects in the province and demanded that the government cancel Yamana Gold’s authorization to operate in the region.
Esquel citizens have been protesting against mining projects since 2003, at which time 82% of the population voted against the government’s mining legislation.
