Mining’s old guard needs strong medicine
A new report details subpar investor returns in the mining industry over the last decade, particularly big cap diversified companies which have not adapted to new realities.
Mining company Vale is seeking investors for its project to extract potassium in Rio Colorado, Malargue, Argentina.
Chinese and Japanese businessmen visited the site a few days ago to evaluate possible investments.
Vale is being forced to seek partners due to declines in world potassium prices. When the exploitation of Malargue was initially studied, a ton of potassium was worth USD 900 million. Today the price has halved.
