Agnico Eagle expands stake in First Nordic to 13%
First Nordic is finalizing its acquisition of the Oijärvi gold project in Finland.
Oscar winner and veteran heartthrob Robert Redford has decided to contribute some of his starpower to America’s anti-fracking campaign.
ABC reports that Redford, who has become a strong supporter of environmental causes in recent years, has lent his voice talents to five advertisements which will be aired in New York on Tuesday.
The advertisements are funded by the Catkill Citizens for Safe Energy and call for the public to protest against the use of hydrofracking in the oil extraction process.
In the advertisement the founder of the Sundance Film Festival says that fracking is a “dangerous mistake” and a “bad deal for local communities.”
He then claims that “fracking for gas threatens drinking water supplies, contaminates the air and contributes to climate change,” and that much of the shale gas is destined for export to overseas end users.
Redford joins an impressive list of Hollywood stars who have agreed to use their celebrity status in support of the anti-fracking movement. A-list actors Matt Damon, Richard Gere and Alec Baldwin have already lent their voices to anti-fracking advertisements.
Redford made his opposition to fracking highly explicit in an interview with democracynow.org at the start of the year:

Even Redford is now unable to get into the out of doors areas that he once was able to by foot. He now has to depend upon Helicopter to enjoy the scenery because he has blocked all roads into those areas, but in doing that, he lacks the fresh air and native aromas of those areas for his health. Helicopters require fossil fuels which he has to use to even get to those areas because of his age. In pursuing this fight against fossil fuels -he is fighting against himself, as are all those that are destined to get old like as he has. If only those in this argument would just use their intelligence to realize they are fighting a losing battle against themselves when they get older. They should be promoting safe engineering for the production of these fuels, if anything, as they need them for their own use.

Mr. Redford is a ‘once was’ and is upset that he is no longer in the limelight; this is his latest attempt to gain the spotlight. His knowledge of the subjet is wanting and all he has to offer is his picture and name both of which are out of date.

Another person who figures that because they are older, they are wiser. I was a well tester for 10 years and I have yet to hear one of these Hollywood knob-polishers talk about acid squeezes, KCl water, drilling mud or Methanol. If you are going to talk about something, try to be comprehensive about it.

I thought this man was above board & actually thought about what he was talking about. On the same note, has anybody seen http://www.fluidenergygroup.com products as they offer a replacement to acid that will eat carbonate rock yet is non-flamable, non-explosive, non-corrosive, non toxic and biodegradable. Their products are pretty cool, we have just used them on treating some wells in alberta, and it works great. Wonder what these stars will say when or if they should ever look into new technologies that are coming out.
