SPECTRAL EVOLUTION offers field portable spectrometers with SPECMIN™ and GRAMS software.

Lawrence, MA – September 20, 2012 – For field research in mining exploration and a range of environmental analysis applications, SPECTRAL EVOLUTION delivers top of the line field portable and laboratory-ready spectrometers. These instruments allow researchers to accurately collect spectroscopic data for mining exploration and mineral processing and production. Now, the data collected can be either qualified or quantified using advanced SPECMIN software from Spectral International Inc. and GRAMS software from Thermo Scientific.

SPECMIN is a mineral identification system for spectroscopy that includes an extensive and dynamic library of reference spectra for minerals, wavelength search/match tables, physical properties of each species in the database, and literature references for the infrared active mineral phases. The spectral library includes a minimum of two different samples per mineral that show compositional differences within mineral species. In addition to mining applications, SPECMIN can also be used in remote sensing applications for ground truthing.

GRAMS is a suite of software programs for visualizing, processing, and managing spectroscopic data. It offers a broad collection of tools to capture, store, process, and report data. GRAMS offers a graphical multivariate analysis tool for building quantitative calibrations, as well as qualitative models for discriminant analysis. This capacity allows for characterization of hundreds of samples per day without the time consuming restrictions of sending samples to the laboratory.

SPECTRAL EVOLUTION’s spectrometers provide:

  • Fast, full spectrum UV-VIS-NIR measurements from 350-2500 nm with a single scan
  • 100% diode array optics with no moving parts for enhanced reliability in the field
  • Integral dark shutter and auto optimization
  • Bluetooth interface for wireless connection
  • High-capacity Li-ion batteries
  • Lightweight, easy to carry for field applications

All spectrometers are equipped with the exclusive DARWin SP Data Analysis software package so you can take advantage of the following analysis features:

  • Automatically saves data as an ASCII file to SPECMIN and GRAMS – no extra export function is necessary
  • Collect reference or target data with a single click
  • Display reflectance/transmittance data (percentage) or absorbance (logarithmic) versus wavelength
  • Single and multiple spectral plots available
  • Compare current scans against libraries, including the USGS libraries
