Vancouver’s BioteQ announces joint venture partnership with China’s largest copper mining company

Vancouver-based BioteQ Environmental Technologies Inc., a leader in innovative technologies for industrial wastewater treatment, recently announced a joint venture partnership with China’s largest copper mining company, Jiangxi Copper Company. The joint venture partners will come together to build a $3.2 million water treatment plant at the Dexing Mine site, located in south-eastern China.Construction is slated to be completed and the plant in operation by July, 2013.

BioteQ estimates that the new copper recovery plant will provide incremental recurring revenues of between $2.5 to 3.0 million on an annual basis for the joint venture partners based on current copper prices, of which $1.25 to 1.5 million would accrue to BioteQ. This new plant is expected to treat approximately 4.6 million cubic meters of water and remove approximately 900,000 pounds of copper from the environment, in a form that can be refined into useful products.

In addition, the company also announced that their CEO, Jonathan Wilkinson, has been appointed to the Cleantech Advisory Board of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT). The Board is comprised of thought leaders from the clean technology industry, and representatives from Federal agencies for the environment, industry, and trade to inform government policy for expanding Canada’s clean technology sector globally.

This latest China plant is the fourth water treatment project between BioteQ and its joint venture partner, Jiangxi Copper Company. Amongst several national and international awards for environmental performance, the Dexing water treatment plant won the 2008 China Mining Environmental Protection Award, recognizing BioteQ’s sustainable technology and Jiangxi Copper Company’s positive contribution in protecting and preserving the environment.
