Caterpillar introduces the CR Series on-board radio that enables users to switch between GPS and ATS grade control without changing out the machine radio. Firmware on the CR radios upgrades directly through the display, eliminating the need for using a PC and simplifying machine installation and integration. The radio is available in two configurations—single band 900 MHz and 2400 MHz, and dual band 900/2400MHz.
CR Radios share a common housing and electrical interface, which simplifies machine installation and integration. The new radios replace the TC450, TC900 and TC2400 radios.
The 900 MHz band radios are used to receive GNSS data in Compact Measurement Record (CMR) format. This data is received from a reference receiver. The data is transmitted to one or more roving receivers for precise machine positioning. These radios can also communicate 2-way data between an office computer and the machine.
The 2400 MHz band radios are used to communicate ATS location information and commands from a base station to a machine for precise positioning. AccuGrade® ATS is a high accuracy dynamic tracking system that uses an Advanced Tracking Sensor (ATS) to track a machine and monitor blade positioning. An ATS instrument on the work site is used to track a target, which is mounted on the blade of the machine, to determine precise 3D positioning.
The on-board radio must be compatible with the infrastructure radio. Consult with the local licensing authority to determine band, channel, spacing and frequency, as approval requirements vary by country. GPS systems require the CR424, CR900, or CR924 on-board radio. ATS systems require the CR424, CR924, or CR2400 on-board radio.
