Two men have died in an accident on an offshore gas rig operated by Origin Energy(ASX:ORG) in Australia’s Bass Strait.
The two men were killed yesterday in what is believed to be a mechanical accident on the Stena Clyde platform situated 50 kilometers off the coast of Victoria in the Bass Strait’s Otway basin.
According to ABC News police flew to the rig to investigate the incident, with all work on the site currently suspended.
Both the Australian Workers Union and the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environment Management Authority have said that they are launching investigations into the deaths.
Origin Energy has since said in a statement that there are no environmental issues in relation to the incident and that existing Otway production will not be affected.
